The final two candidates were English singer David Longdon, later a member of Big Big Train, and Scottish singer and guitarist Ray Wilson of the grunge-influenced band Stiltskin. Longdon's song "Hieroglyphics of Love" attracted producer Nick Davis who forwarded it onto Banks and Rutherford and liked it enough to invite him to the studio to audition.[7] Banks had liked Wilson's vocals from listening to Stiltskin's first album, The Mind's Eye (1994).[5] For his first audition, Wilson sang Genesis songs with Collins's vocals removed. At his second, he was asked to contribute vocal ideas to the new music that Banks and Rutherford had written, singing and humming ideas on the spot. Takes from this session were used by Banks to shape the verses to "There Must Be Some Other Way".[6] In November 1996, Banks and Rutherford chose Wilson as the new lead singer. Longdon said Rutherford phoned him with the news while Banks sent him a Christmas card with "a lengthy message inside."[7] Wilson's arrival into the band was made public on 6 June 1997.[8]
The album was launched in Europe on 26 August 1997 with a live press conference, interview, and acoustic performance on German television and VH1 from the Television Tower in Berlin. Two days later, the North American launch event with a live interview and acoustic performance took place at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, broadcast as a nationwide radio special.[8]
A 27-date North American tour in large arenas was booked to start in November 1997,[8] but it was cancelled due to insufficient ticket sales. A revised 22-date tour in smaller venues was arranged, but that too was cancelled. At the European tour's conclusion, Genesis went on hiatus until Collins returned for their 2007 Turn It On Again Tour.
The cerebellum is essential for fine motor control of movement and posture, and its dysfunction disrupts balance and impairs control of speech, limb and eye movements. The developing cerebellum consists mainly of three types of neuronal cells: granule cells in the external germinal layer, Purkinje cells, and neurons of the deep nuclei. The molecular mechanisms that underlie the specific determination and the differentiation of each of these neuronal subtypes are unknown. Math1, the mouse homologue of the Drosophila gene atonal, encodes a basic helix-loop-helix transcription factor that is specifically expressed in the precursors of the external germinal layer and their derivatives. Here we report that mice lacking Math1 fail to form granule cells and are born with a cerebellum that is devoid of an external germinal layer. To our knowledge, Math1 is the first gene to be shown to be required in vivo for the genesis of granule cells, and hence the predominant neuronal population in the cerebellum.
"Neon Genesis Evangelion Classical Volume 1 - Beethoven" is a CD album containing a recording of Ludwig van Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, as conducted by Alexander Rahbari. The fourth movement was used in the 24th episode of the series, and was previously released on Neon Genesis Evangelion Addition. It was released on October 22, 1997 by King Records, with the catalog number KICC-231.[1]
"Neon Genesis Evangelion Classical Volume 2 - Verdi" is a double-CD set containing a recording of Messa da Requiem by Giuseppe Verdi, as conducted by Alexander Rahabari. The Dies Irae was used in the trailers for The End of Evangelion, and was previously released on Evangelion: Death. It was released on October 22, 1997 by King Records with the cat. number KICC-232.[2]
"Neon Genesis Evangelion Classical Volume 3 - Handel" is a soundtrack album released on 22 November 1997 by King Records it features pieces originally composed by George Frideric Handel.[3] It was released as on a two disc album with the cat. number KICC-234 and it peak ranked 96 in the Oricon charts making only one appearance.
The date of entry into force of the Convention was not determined until 31 October 1996, when Hungary became the 65th state to ratify. As required, the Convention entered into force 180 days later, on 29 April 1997. During the previous four years, the PrepCom met 16 times, laying the foundation for the workings of the future Organisation.
Meanwhile, the Executive Council and the Technical Secretariat started to perform their respective duties. The Council held seven sessions in 1997, at which it considered and approved transitional verification arrangements for chemical-weapons destruction facilities (CWDFs) and facility agreements for plants producing chemicals listed in Schedule 1 of the CWC with potential weapons applications.

Great interest has been paid to the genesis of banded vegetation, with various hypotheses on their evolution: the pattern could have been derived from a previous denser structure through climatic or anthropic degradation (White 1971) or from a bare area through gradual colonization by vegetation that traps sand and organic materials (Boudet 1972). (1970) speculates termites may play a role in initiation of the pattern.
In addition to the original Mega Drive version, Sonic 3D Blast was also available for the Sega Saturn to make up for the cancellation of Sonic X-treme, which was intended to be Saturn's killer game for the 1996 holiday season; the game was ported in seven weeks, during development of the Mega Drive version. The game boasts FMVs, higher quality graphics, including a true 3D Special Stage, and an entirely new CD audio soundtrack composed by Richard Jacques, who would go on to produce the Sonic R soundtrack. A European release followed in February 1997.
In September 1997 a port of the Saturn version was released for PC in Europe and North America, with the videos and soundtrack intact, as well as the notable addition of a save game system. This port, however, was lacking some of the Saturn's effects, such as the fog in Rusty Ruin Zone, and featured a downgraded Special Stage that mixed the 2D sprites from the Mega Drive with the basic gameplay of the Saturn version. The Saturn version was eventually released in Japan on 14 October 1999, the same date as Sonic Adventure International. That release is notable for including stylized "Classic Sonic" artwork, but other than that the game is largely identical, except the Saturn version's notorious load times are slightly improved.
Archie Comics published a comic adaptation of the game for a 48-page special, published in January 1997. A loose adaptation of the game also appeared in issues 104 through 106 (May through July 1997) of Sonic the Comic.
Deposits from ash-cloud surges associated with dome collapse can, under certain conditions, be remobilised to form surge-derived pyroclastic flows (SDPFs). Using numerical modelling, we reproduce the emplacement of these flows and investigate the conditions that favour their genesis. We use the new version of the numerical model VolcFlow, which simulates the two components of a pyroclastic flow: the basal avalanche and the overriding ash-cloud surge. The basal avalanche (primary block-and-ash flows and SDPFs) are simulated using three previously published rheological laws: plastic, frictional and frictional velocity-weakening rheologies. Applied to the 25 June 1997 dome collapse at Soufrière Hills Volcano, the models reproduce to different degrees the deposit footprints formed by the block-and-ash flows, the ash-cloud surges and the SDPFs. In the plastic model, SDPFs occur if the ash-cloud surge deposit exceeds a threshold thickness that allows it to remobilise and flow. In the frictional models, SDPFs occur only if ash-cloud surge deposition takes place on a slope exceeding the friction angle of the ash. Results also highlight that SDPFs appeared so clearly in 1997 at Montserrat due to a combination of topographic factors: (i) a bend in the Mosquito Ghaut drainage that allowed the ash-cloud surges to detach, (ii) a depositional area on the watershed between the eastern and western drainage channels and (iii) a network of tributaries that drained all the remobilised mass into Dyer's River to form a single, large SDPF. Our model could be a promising tool for the future forecasting of hazards posed by surge-derived pyroclastic flows.
"Titanic" was released on Dec. 19, 1997, and easily dominated the box office for all of 1998. It grossed $443.3 million, but that's only counting for domestic totals. It would be the first film to surpass $1 billion worldwide.
